Northern Circuit Route

Your adventure begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. After formalities, we continue to Lemosho Glades where your hike starts through pristine rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. This gentle introduction allows for wildlife spotting and gradual acclimatization.

Today's hike takes you above the rainforest into the heath and moorland zone. The vegetation becomes more sparse as you gain altitude, with giant heather and lobelia plants dotting the landscape.

Today's trek takes you across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. The trail gradually climbs to Moir Hut, a remote and less-visited campsite at the base of Lent Hills. This extended route helps with acclimatization while offering spectacular views of the Western Breach and the Shira Ridge.

Today you'll follow the Northern Circuit route, traversing below the Northern Icefields to Pofu Camp. This remote and rarely visited area offers spectacular views of the Northern Icefields and the Saddle. The trail is mostly flat or gently downhill, making for a relatively easy day that aids in acclimatization.

Today's hike continues along the Northern Circuit with spectacular views of the Northern Icefields. The trail descends slightly to Third Cave, allowing for better acclimatization. The landscape is stark and beautiful, with unique rock formations and occasional sightings of high-altitude wildlife. This is one of the most remote sections of the Northern Circuit.

A shorter hiking day as you make your way to School Hut, your base for the summit attempt. The trail climbs steadily through alpine desert terrain. You'll have an early dinner and then rest before your midnight wake-up call for the summit attempt. Try to get some sleep, though excitement and altitude may make it difficult.

You'll be woken around midnight for a light breakfast before beginning your summit attempt. The steep climb to Stella Point (5,739m) on the crater rim is the most challenging part, taking 6-8 hours. From there, it's another hour along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for the night.

After breakfast, you'll make your final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. At the gate, you'll receive your summit certificates (gold for those who reached Uhuru Peak, green for Stella Point). You'll then be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved shower and celebration dinner.

After a well-earned breakfast, you'll make your final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). This gentle 3-4 hour hike takes you through beautiful montane forest, where you might spot colobus monkeys and various bird species. At the gate, you'll sign out with the park authorities and receive your summit certificates (gold for those who reached Uhuru Peak, green for Stella Point). A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved hot shower and celebration dinner.
